Using SwingTrader on a laptop as well as your main pc

A number of traders use two machines - perhaps a pc and a laptop when traveling - and want SwingTrader on both machines. This is possible as long as you only use one application at any one time. Email me to tell me you will be using a second machine and I will set things up so your existing username will apply to both applications.

Using the "Update to the latest version" link on the members website home page, go to the download page and download the installer to your second machine (laptop). Run the installer in the same way as before to install.

Obviously this new version will not contain your watch lists or optimisations so you will need to copy these across to the laptop application. You can do this as follows:

Using Microsoft explorer go to C:, Program Files, SST, SST SwingTrader, Yahoo, General. In this folder you will see two files, UserSettings.xml and Watchlist.xml Copy these two files from your first application (pc) and then paste them into the new application (laptop) General folder replacing the original files. To transfer the files you can use a CD, floppy disc or memory stick or you can email the files from one machine to the other.

Once you have done this for the first time you do not need to transfer "UserSettings" again.

IMPORTANT: Whichever machine you use to carry out changes to watch lists or optimisations will have the latest version of the "WatchList.xml" file and you will need to copy this file to your other machine to keep both machines the same. I suggest that you also keep a back up copy just in case.
