SST SwingTrader versus SST ProPlus
Which one to choose?

You are probably aware that I have developed two pieces of trading software, the SST SwingTrader and the SST ProPlus. Here is a brief explanation of the difference between them to help you decide which to go for.

Both incorporate the SST (Short Swing Trading) strategy including rules for entry, stop positions and exit. Both have the ability to optimise the strategy for each individual symbol to be traded and both have the ability to back test to check potential profitability.

The initial subscription for SST SwingTrader is £99 (GBP) or $189 (USD) per month and SST ProPlus is £110 (GBP) or $210 (USD) per month. Discounts are available for both.

Here are the other key differences.

SST SwingTrader
This is a totally freestanding and powerful program so you do not need any other software at all - you also do not need to pay any separate data costs. Data is supplied free of charge by Yahoo Finance. If you currently use a charting package then you can continue to run that alongside the SwingTrader if you wish. SwingTrader is very easy and straightforward to use so does not require intimate knowledge of the SST strategy and all the help you need is incorporated in the on screen help. It has an additional feature of being able to optimise a number of symbols at once when you are not otherwise using your pc (such as overnight).

SST ProPlus
This is an eSignal plug-in. In other words ProPlus cannot work on it's own, it can only work when installed into (plugged in) the charting package supplied by eSignal and the eSignal data is used by the ProPlus plug-in. It is therefore ideal for current eSignal users or traders who are looking to subscribe to a high quality charting package. Of course you would pay for the eSignal package in addition to the ProPlus so although the SST subscription is the same as SwingTrader the total cost is more because of the additional subscription to eSignal as well as the cost of eSignal data.

It might appeal to the more technically minded because it is more complex to use than SwingTrader. The plus side is that it has a few extra "bells & whistles". These include a more comprehensive back testing report and the ability to manually change settings in the strategy in addition to the optimisation process that both SwingTrader and ProPlus have. This means you need very good knowledge of the SST strategy and you also need to have or acquire a good knowledge of how to use eSignal in order to get the best from ProPlus. A comprehensive manual accompanies the SST ProPlus plug-in. Using eSignal data means that there is a much wider choice of exchanges including Futures, Forex etc as long as you subscribe to it (via eSignal). Not all versions of eSignal are suitable.
